Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Uno provides one MIDI input port and one MIDI output port, with each MIDI port supporting 16 MIDI channels. MIDI is the acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, and is the protocol used when MIDI keyboards and devices (devices that record and playback the MIDI information, such as computer or hardware sequencers) communicate with each other. The Uno is self-powered and can be conveniently attached to your computer's USB port, without the need for tools or computer disassembly. There's no need for additional cables - the Uno comes with integral USB and MIDI cables as part of its sturdy construction.

1 out of 5 stars Danger Will Robinson!!! Your OS will be compromised!   June 17, 2008

I actually got this to work with my Yamaha P-80, but I paid dearly for it.

I'm running Windows XP and during the driver installation, I got the "...has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows XP" message.

OK, the next paragraph was really scary - "Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabalize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."

M-Audio's user guide ACTUALLY INSTRUCTS you to click the "Continue Anyway" button, so instead of stopping the install and returning this item for a refund, I trusted them and continued the install (you actually get warned twice not to install). BIG MISTAKE!

After the install, I found out my Email and Internet services were not working. Somehow, the Midisport installation managed to turn off my Broadcom network adapter, and if I hadn't had the help of AT&T tech support, I would have concluded that I had a hardware problem with my Ethernet connection. Don't know yet if anything else got messed up.

As an added bonus, there's also a warning sticker hidden inside the package advising you, for reasons I won't even get into, to wash your hands after handling the product. I am not making this up.

I have never had this type of problem installing a USB device, and I have about 6 of them.

Avoid, unless you can take the risk.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding and easy   June 1, 2008
M-Audio has an awesome product here. Realize that I am using it on a Mac and with a Yamaha keyboard. I checked other reviews before buying this and the Mac and Yamaha combo was reportedly great. I now agree! My daughter is thrilled and I know we will have days, months, maybe years of fun using this.

5 out of 5 stars M-Audio USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface   May 28, 2008
I was given this, along with an old QuickShot MIDI keyboard controller. I bought a Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 5-Port PCI Card and got updated Midisport drivers for my Mac G4 (OS 10.4.11) from M-Audio's website. I use this setup to access the sounds in GarageBand and play around with MIDI. Everything works fine. But, admittedly, this is not much of a test of the Interface, since the controller has only a MIDI out.

3 out of 5 stars Does what I intended but no more...   April 9, 2008
I used this cable to program a midi board with a sysex command. It worked, no problems, but the cable is flimsy and I don't see using it for an extended period of time. It's cheaply made and seems it will break after a few uses.

1 out of 5 stars Vista Users Look Elsewhere   March 27, 2008

If you use Windows Vista or plan on switching to Vista, your M-Audio equipment isn't going to work the way it did in XP.

M-Audio has a Vista driver for the USB Uno but it doesn't always work. Initially, after I installed the Vista driver that I downloaded from M-Audio's support page, everything seemed to work fine. But after a few hours of working in Reason 4.0, I noticed that the sounds weren't quite right. Everything that I was playing through my keyboard, which was connected via the USB Uno, sounded like poor quality samples. At first I thought it was my soundcard (M-Audio Fast Track USB. I wrote a review for that as well) but I played a drum pattern in ReDrum without my keyboard and everything sounded normal. I then tested the USB Uno with another MIDI controller and got the same results, low quality sounds. After uninstalling and reinstalling the USB Uno driver a couple of times, the sounds triggered by my keyboard seemed to be working okay again. When I decided to use it again later that week, the same sound issue reemerged. Personally, I will not be purchasing anymore M-Audio products due to their poor Vista drivers.
