Product Description The Hal Leonard Blues Guitar Method is your complete guide to learning blues guitar. This book uses real blues songs - no corny arrangments of nursery rhymes here! (well, except "Mary Had a Little Lamb," but this is NOT the version you learned in kindergarten!) - to teach you the basics of rhythm and lead blues guitar in the style of B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, and many others. Lessons include: 12-bar blues; chords, scales and licks; vibrato and string bending; riffs, turnarounds, and boogie patterns; hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides; standard notation and tablature; and much more! Songs include: Boom Boom * Born Under a Bad Sign * Double Trouble * Killing Floor * Sweet Home Chicago * You Shook Me * and more. The CD includes over 70 tracks for demo and play-along.

Good workbook for Blues August 20, 2008 I just purchased this book recently, and am not disappointed. The exercises in it are very good for getting a feel for Blues. One caveat: this book is probably not for the absolute beginner who is just picking up a guitar for the first time, as it does assume at least some basic knowledge. However, I'm not much more than a beginner myself, and have found this book to be quite helpful. One other caveat: this book is a fairly small format and the exercises might be difficult for some people to read without squinting. I think that there may be a larger format available. I actually like the small size, as the book fits easily into my guitar case. The CD is also nice, to be able to hear and/or play along with recordings of each exercise in the book (I also set some of the tracks for "repeat" and use them as jam tracks to practice my soloing with).
Bottom line: A good little book, and worth the price.
Blues methods.. May 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
..sure it is. After reading previous reviews (thanks) I purchased appropriate larger edition. I cannot compare this book to many similar available on Amazon, but this one gave me a good workout through many new chords and licks. Maybe it is not the best intro, but remember, the purpose of such edition is to make you exercise. I have finish it without regret and now I look for another provider and motivator for practicing. In short - I enjoyed it. Not a waste of money.
Poor introduction to the blues, poor teaching technique March 16, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a beginning guitar player interested in the blues, I made the mistake of purchasing this as my second instructional book. I found it extremely frustrating to try to learn from. I didn't care for the songs - I felt like they were very oversimplified (and dissatisfying to play), and the book was far too rushed in terms of the blues theory it introduced. Now, as an advanced beginner, I have subsequently purchased the FAR BETTER book _Blues You Can Use_, which I highly recommend as a blues instruction book. Check it out instead of this one.
I periodically re-open this Blues Guitar book to see if I can get anything from it, as my skills advance. As I looked at it tonight, and played some of the music, I remembered why I never liked it to begin with!
If you want the bigger version... March 13, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
DO NOT BUY THIS. I bought this expecting the whole version, but instead, I got a packet looking thing. Also, the tabs are very hard to read from a 3 ft. distance.
Other than the size, this is a quality book, I would've given it a much better score if it had been the whole thing.

This book was suprisingly small compared to others in the series. Still it was a worthwhile purchase.
