Product Description

When TLC was between albums, I had no way to release my creativity. One night, feeling put-out by my boyfriend and wondering about how much women had to go through to make a relationship work, I sat down and started writing poems. "Unpretty" was the first. Up until then, I hadn't realized how badly I needed to release what I was feeling inside. They were my thoughts from the heart, and my art.

The poems cover a whole range of topics: Love, relationships, heartbreak, body image, family, society, abortion, and many other things. They each mean alot to me, and I hope they inspire you, give you a different perspective on what's going on around you, or just help you relax. You'll find a little bit of me in these words, and maybe you'll find a little bit of yourself or someone you know.

I reached out to my friends, including my fans, while I was putting Thoughts. together and they realty inspired me and helped me figure out which stories to tell. Stories about the important people in my life, like my mom who's always been there for me, my family, my TLC partners Lisa and Rozonda, and those who have all helped me along the way. I've had to deal with some tough stuff, like my relationship with my dad, who left when I was three, my never-ending battle with sickle cell, the bad high school years, my self-image problems, and my fight to survive in this crazy music business.

Sharing these stories and poems has helped me face big issues in my life. Maybe they'll help you, too. Or maybe they'll give you a better understanding of who I am as a person. I can only express myself so much through my songs. On my own, though, I can let you into my heart and mind.

Thank you for allowing me to share my Thoughts with you.

Love, Tionne

3 out of 5 stars These "Thoughts" could have used alot of work   December 2, 2008
When I hear the name TLC, Tionne "T Boz" Watkin's deep, raspy voice seductively working a groove come to mind. She's led the group through hits like Waterfalls, Creep, Diggin' On You, and Red Light Special. While her vocals are distinctive and captivating, I can't say the same about her poems. She set out with really good intentions, covering topics like racism, weight, sex, and child abuse, but they fall flat. VERY flat. Take "Hatred" for example. "Hate is evil, Hate is not good." I kind of got what you meant in the first line, but why repeat yourself? What follows are should, could, would lining up to round out a Dr. Suess sounding nursery rhyme. Unpretty, which would first show up as a song on TLC's Fanmail album, is the only poem that I have no complaints about. It's not as repetitive as the song and builds more on it's theme of self love and acceptance. Poems aside, the autobiographical sections are very interesting and reveal alot more about Tionne's life than I previously knew. From her battle with sickle cell anemia to her start as a TLC group member, it's a pageturner. Now if she could just get to a really good poetry class.

5 out of 5 stars good book   November 18, 2005
I remember borrowing this from a friend around the time it was released. I don't remember all the details cause it's been like 5 years but I remember enjoying the poetry and about her love for music.

5 out of 5 stars Very thoughtful and inspirational!!!!   May 24, 2004
I enjoyed tionne's book of poetry and essays...as i was sitting reading her book i knew that she had to go through a lot of trials and tribulations to get where she is emotionally and spiritually. i'm glad that i picked up this book and read it. i feel so great now knowing that im not the only one who is going through hard times dealing with death, weight, insecurities with how i look and act, etc etc...and that life is too short. live life to the fullest and worry about tomorrow when and/or if it gets here later.

thanks tionne for your words of wisdom. tboz has a beautiful voice inside and out. :)

5 out of 5 stars T-BOZ is truly creative   August 14, 2003
T-Boz did a great job with her first poetry and essay book. Some of the poems are simple but touching. If she keeps it up she
will become a great poet.
