1 out of 5 stars Transparency Needed   November 16, 2008
Music Lovers,
This book is not a stand alone book it say complete version but in reality it is not. You need to buy another book to find the answer, then.you need to buy again, their CD's to listen to ear training. Beware of this kind of business strategy that will end up, you buying their 3 products to learn little. You can buy one book with CD for half the price of these three books.
They should give WARNING telling the buyer that they need to buy another sets to complete their music education.
If there is zero star I will give this book zero rating

4 out of 5 stars Great start.   November 5, 2008
I purchased these books to teach basic theory in my music courses to high school students. What I like about the books:
1. The topics are clearly explained and the lessons have visual examples on each page.
2. The lessons are divided half between explanation and application on one worksheet, so the information isn't overwhelming.
3. There are unit tests that cover all of the material learned through each section, providing tangible evidence of progress.
4. Books 1-3 are all in one notebook!

What I don't like about the book:
1. To be able to utilize all of the material, the students have to read both treble and bass clef. Working with beginning music students, learning one clef alone is often overwhelming, but two at the same time? My students got confused and frustrated very quickly. I altered the worksheets to best fit my students.
2. The sequence of topics covered. Personally, the sequence does not fit my opinion of when they should be introduced. Now, that's MY preference - it might work for you!

Overall, I find the books effective and easily altered to meet the needs of my classrooms.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to understand.   August 17, 2008
It was too easy for me ( i had to do it for school ) but the lessons are easy to understand.
If you are a beginner, this is a great book to start

5 out of 5 stars excellent product   July 17, 2008
I ordered this for my daughter, Toni, because she loves to play music on her instruments. This is helping her to further her education and knowledge of music. Plus she is trying to learn writing music with this series.

5 out of 5 stars A great overview   February 13, 2008
This book is well laid out and explains clearly all the musical notations I've missed by being largely self taught on the piano. It covers everything from terminology to how to write out notes to scales and arpeggios. You can also purchase a CD that helps with ear training. It has a spiral binding which makes it very easy to stay open if you're using it at the piano or on a music stand.
