| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Most large audition calls for musical theatre, both professionally and in larger school situations, specify that those auditioning bring in a "16 bar" excerpt. The professionals in musical theatre often complain that singers don't know how to construct an appropriate 16 bar audition, either in choosing a song or in editing an excerpt. With this new series, that problem is solved forever! Editor Michael Dansicker, a composer/producer/music director, is a seasoned musical theatre veteran, with 100 Broadway credits. He brings his expertise and broad knowledge of the literature to this series. Each excerpt has been given a thoughtful, graceful and effective form. No more illegible scribblings for the poor audition accompanist! An enormous variety of literature is represented, from old standards to movie songs to the latest Broadway and Off-Broadway material. With 100 songs per volume, any singing actor, whatever his or her talents and strong suits, will have many choices. In the preface, the editor gives valuable pointers on the nature of a good audition and some factors in choosing songs.

NOT GOOD September 28, 2008 You should not buy this book. Although this may seem good for auditions, most directors and pianists are going to want the whole song. Some might even refuse to play for you unless the whole song is in there. And what happens if they want you to sing the whole song? YOU CAN'T! Trust me, this is not a good thing.
The 16-Bar Theatre Audition Book July 26, 2007 Although I have not actually auditioned using this book, I was impressed with the songs included in the book . . . nice variety. Also, I am a 2nd soprano at best and the songs are very much in my range. The vocal arrangements are such that you can easily demonstrate your talents in 16 bars. I will definitely be using it in future auditions.
okay for community theatre or non-professonals only November 21, 2006 16 out of 21 found this review helpful
These volumes are NOT useful for any aspiring professional or college level music theatre student. The cuts are not from the actual scores and leave out much useful information for the student and accompanist. I have been a professional audition accompanist for many years and have been dismayed to see these books hit the market. If you want a good 16 bar cut that shows off your individual abilities, talk to your music director or someone who does this for a living.
Great addition to your theatrical library June 2, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a great audition resource, as it not only has the songs already broken down into audition-ready length, but it also includes a wide variety. There are pieces from shows old and contemporary. And although some of the music goes a bit over 16 bars, this is generally nto a big deal. It's maybe two-four bars over. Directors are typically more concerned with your voice than PRECISE bar count. These selections keep it close, though.
Decent April 9, 2006 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I like the book alot and find that it has helped me a great deal. Although I wish it had some more current Broadway shows, such as Wicked, Hairspray or even Thoroughly Modern Millie.
