5 out of 5 stars Excellent   January 2, 2009

I purchased this to use on two of my home computers and they loaded easily (vista and XP)I have used Norton products in the past, and I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements in this version. As others have noted, the software appears to load faster/not delay boot up, works efficiently in the background, and can be configured to your liking. I primarily bought this for the virus protection. While the "pulse" updating seems like overkill (a marketing tool?), it has worked well for me.
I heartily recommend this to users who have been avoiding Norton due to its "bloated" structure in the past.
[Note: Wait for a good sale and purchase it before your current subscription expires. The price I paid here at Amazon was significantly less than the current price].

4 out of 5 stars good security suite   January 1, 2009
After some problems on the initial installation, two calls to norton and a reload, everyting has been good.A month into it, it seems to work fine. I like the automatic weekly full scan, all in the back ground and the multiple daily quick scans, along with the constant updates that don't seem to interfere with the running of the computer. As far as the protection goes, I have'nt had any problems.

I had used Norton Internet Security in prior years, but had switched to Norton 360 for 2008. I liked the latter product for the computer efficiency component (cleaning things out, etc.). I had wanted to use the off site backup feature, but it didn't work the way I wanted. So I decided that for the cost, I would switch back to Norton Internet Security. I am pleased with the improvements made during my 12 month absence for the product. However, I do with it had the computer clean-up feature. Also, it does appear to slow down my computer more than the Norton 360 security product. Not sure why.

The product works greta and is much easier to use than the 08 version. I feel the scanning is faster and the setting make using it simple. Norton really upgraded from the 08 version!

Until I decided to buy Norton, I have used McAfee and recently CA Security Suite and Kaspersky trial version. I didn't have any problems with McAfee but CA was a nightmare - my computer came to a point that it crashed because of all the malware and viruses which CA didn't recognized/got rid of. To start the computer after all that mess, I was forced to reinstalled XP (not a fresh install, just repair install) and decided to try Kaspersky trail version. Kaspersky found 123 infected files most of which were very serious malware and viruses. I was shocked that CA never found and cleaned those even though I was updating the definitions very regularly,so in my view CA is an useless program and not powerful enough. I used Kaspersky trial version close to a month and I didn't like its user interface. It never tells you what is going on - it says how many threats it finds, then you say clean and nothing happens, no messages, nothing - cleaned, not cleaned? no idea. So, I think Kaspersky is very poorly designed. It also slowed down my computer.

After careful consideration of other available security softwares, I decided on Norton because of some additional features over McAfee and I am very glad that I did. It is a very efficient and effective all around anti-virus, security software. It is very fast, doesn't slow down the computer. And one of the additional features, I love, are password cards: which ever websites you visit, it offers you to create a card profile (user name + password) specific to that website. When you are online, you enter one password at the beginning in Norton and it remembers the rest. You can also create address and credit card cards, too. So if you like shopping online, you don't have to write the address/password/credit card info all the time. I visit so many sites, forums etc that need passwords that this feature was very convenient for me. I 100% recommend this product, I am a happy customer.
