1 out of 5 stars Adware in disguise   December 30, 2008

I installed QB Pro 2009 for a client today, and I'm just appalled by how much crap you have to go through to use it. First, there is no way to skip registration: you have to register otherwise the program stops working after 30 days. It's like activation and registration rolled into one. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's not done over the internet, you have call and wait on hold for an operator, who will try to sell you a support plan. Then, you get nag screens to sign up for Intuit.com services, with only two options: "Create Account" or "Remind me later", no option for "Stop bothering me".

Get out of my face, Intuit, and stay out: I've already paid for the software, so stop bothering me. I think Intuit is probably among the most hated software companies in the world, right up there with Symantec and Real Networks.

5 out of 5 stars Quickbooks 2009 works well   December 27, 2008

I upgraded from a 1997 version and am very pleased with all the new features. Easy to learn and easy to convert from my old Quickbooks.

3 out of 5 stars QB 2009. 2006 was better!   December 26, 2008

Good product as always but the payroll was much easier in the 2006 version. Also, it seems you can't add a new vendor when you download transactions from your bank like I could with the 2006 version. Intuit seem to shut off updates and support after 3 years forcing you to update but this is still probably the best product out there.

1 out of 5 stars Quickbooks 2009 has Serious Flaws   December 24, 2008

Unlike Quickbooks 2008 which works great, Quickbooks 2009 has serious flaws. The bank reconciliation feature freezes causing one to have to close Quickbooks and reboot the computer.

After rebooting it is necessary to go into control panel, find the printer you wish to use and reset it as default. Then you must go to the Quickbooks "PDF printer" which Quickbooks 2009 automatically installed and delete any documents from the print que.

The bank reconciliations you perform will not print because Quickbooks is structured to send them directly to this "virtual printer" device, which does not forward the document you wish to print to the real printer you have connected to your computer. Quickbooks 2009 automatically resets your real printer to "non-default".

This causes great aggravation and slows down your work.

Additionally, Intuit, has essentially isolated themselves from their customers by making it virtually impossible to reach a real person to talk to by telephone.

I strongly advise you to not upgrade to Quickbooks 2009 software. Stay with one of the earlier versions.
