5 out of 5 stars The Jazz Theory Book   May 12, 2007
A valuable tool for understanding how to speak the language of jazz (and music in general) on any instrument.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Overview of Jazz Theory   March 9, 2007

Mr. Levine's book is insightful, with a logical concise sequence of topics. It would require much diligence for the beginning student, but invaluable to those students who have some foundational knowledge. The "real" samples link the theory to practical application. Before buying a "fake" book buy this one first.

I knew very little about jazz theory before purchasing this book. Just the first 20 pages made it much easier to wrap my head around everything being discussed in my jazz class. A must buy for everyone from the jazz hobby-est to the profession-seeker.

5 out of 5 stars The best!!   February 16, 2007

The most comprehensive jazz theory book I've ever used. Have used it for private students and in fundamental jazz theory classes. Its logical presentation of material and easy-to-understand explanations make it the most user-friendly encyclopedia of jazz theory that I've seen.

4 out of 5 stars Theory for the Jazz learner.   January 29, 2007

I purchased this book along with another book by Mark Levine. The books are very similar and both are more advanced than I would have liked. I will need to use this book at a very slow and easy rate.
This book will someday be a great help to my dreams of learning to master that Jazz music.
