4 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to do   April 5, 2007

It's a fair quality MIDI to USB adaptor but if you are looking for a pro quality one, this is probably not for you. It worked with my Casio Privia PX-310 and MacBook Pro OS 10.4.8; no drivers needed.

1 out of 5 stars Compatibility problem with Roland A-37 MIDI controller keyboard   March 29, 2007

The Uno's MIDI input did not work with my Roland A-37 MIDI controller keyboard, even after downloading the latest drivers. Using Cakewalk (Home Studio 4 running on a Compaq V2000 laptop) to record and view the individual MIDI events, I could see that some of the note-off messages had been improperly decoded by the Uno as note C-zero. This caused those notes to ring indefinitely and caused an ultra-low note to sound... very unpleasant and obviously unusable.

The MIDI output did work fine driving my Roland Fantom XR and Roland JV-1010 with no problems.

After reading another Uno & A-37 user's identical problem (on Amazon), I returned the Uno and purchased an Edirol(Roland) UA-25 audio/MIDI interface. It works perfectly with all of my equipment including the A-37.

3 out of 5 stars performance: 4, installation: 2   March 28, 2007

I would like to echo some of the other reviews about the installation of the drivers for this product. This device is definitely NOT plug-n-play, at least not for me. I have a graduate degree in electrical engineering and I teach a course in digital audio and it STILL took me over 1/2 hour to get this device to work properly. Since some reviewers had little to no problem getting this device to work, I can only conclude that it is computer dependent. For the record, my computer runs Windows XP.

Because my computer is running XP (I first tried just plugging the device in without installing any drivers first (as recommended in the users manual, since this product is supposedly "class compliant"). This didn't work. I then tried installing the drivers from the CD-ROM included with the product. This didn't work. I then tried installing the updated drivers from the M-Audio website. This didn't work. I then followed the detailed on-line installation instructions. This didn't work. I then followed the instructions suggested by Kevin Araki (posted as a review). This ALMOST worked, but not quite. It installed the "M-Audio USB Uno Driver", but not the "Audio USB Uno MIDI Driver". Finally, I tried following Kevin Araki's instructions a 2nd time -- success. Is this what Plug-n-play is supposed to be? I think not!!!!

Once I got the drivers installed, however, the device worked beautifully.

4 out of 5 stars Good, cheap solution for a midi port.   March 25, 2007

Driver installation was a bit confusing, but got it up and running without too much trouble. Seems to be working just fine, no latency issues or other performance problems. Of course I only use it as midi in for a simple keyboard, don't know how it would function under more demanding circumstances.
