Wonderful Resource! July 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is for all new teachers going into the classroom and assists veteran teachers in regards to slowing down and focusing on quality teaching. It outlines a step-by-step format that guides the teacher in breaking down the skills and concepts for all students to succeed in the process. The teaching strategies, song lists, and yearly and monthly plans are just a taste of what this book has to offer.
Simply AWESOME July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is an invaluable resource for even an experienced music teacher. I have taught music to students in all grades for 20+ years, and still, I am learning. The model in this book helps you to organize all the skills and concepts that you must teach, and systematically shows you how to manage it all. I was intrigued with the approach of "sound to symbol" instead of the "symbol to sound" approach that most musicians are taught. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any music teacher......school or private teacher. Karen Holloway, Nashville Tennessee
All teachers should read this July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As an undergaduate student, this book has completely changed my idea of how a lesson should be planned and exectuted. I also feel like I have learned a great deal on how students learn. Kodaly Today, combines the learning process of the student and lesson planning to make music easier for students to understand. This book will truly be my Bible as I am going into student teaching and my own classroom.
A must have for Music Specialists! July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is essential for all teachers who are looking for a research-based guide to teaching music. It is very clearly organized and includes teaching strategies for many musical elements. I am excited about implementing everything I have learned from this book when I return to my classroom in August.

I needed this book earlier! July 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What I love about the book is that, first, it is extremely detailed in what should be introduced, and how. Second, it shows examples of each stage of the student's learning for the concept being introduced. Third, the appendices are great; you see when concepts should be introduced, focus songs, and songs that are also good materials to use for the element. Being a new elementary music teacher, the book has tons of information that has been helpful in planning for next year! It's a great addition to any music teacher's library. I would also recommend picking up the other book by the authors, From Sound to Symbol.
