Rent, by Jonathan Larson- As captivating as the show itself December 31, 1998 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am a 16-year-old who fell in love with RENT when my parents bought the amazing CD. Last September I actually got to see the Broadway show. But I am a person who, once I become obsessed about something, I want to know everything about it. The book RENT was insightful, interesting, and incredible. It made me feel like I knew Jonathan Larson and his dream of RENT. The interviews with his family, friends and the cast and staff of RENT were great. The pictures of Jonathan and the journey to make RENT a reality, as well as the huge color photos of the show and cast, were absolutely awesome. If you are someone who is captivated by RENT, and want to learn more, the book RENT is definitely for you. I've had my copy for about 4 days and I've read it about 6 times.
This book was the best! December 16, 1998 I absolutely loved this book. I borrowed it from a friend of mine and just read it over and over. I couldn't believe how interesting it was. I plan on getting my own copy of it soon.
Fantastic; really encompasses all that is RENT November 9, 1998 The book is just awesome. I am a RENT lover and this gives any fan tons of info about the show, cast, and the dream of Jonathan Larson that is now RENT.
J. Larson's RENT- A True Bohemian Rhapsody November 3, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is not too often that we see a musical that is so insightful as RENT is. Jonathan Larson captured the true essence of Bohemian life in this wonderful work. This book gives us a survey of the life, times, and legacy of Jonathan Larson. As we read this book, we begin to see the true genius of a man who lived the life of a true starving artist. He had a college degree, and yet he chose to persue his dream of, one day, telling his story to the world. Larson's dedication and love for All Things Artistic is an inspiration to us all. May Thespus shine upon him.
The BEST book on RENT!! September 29, 1998 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm an offical RENThead and this book is the best book to buy if you want to know absolutely anything about Jon Larson, RENT, or the process of making RENT. IT was quotes from the Original Broadway cast, the director, producers, even Jon Larson himself. It has the entire play written out, as well as numerous picutes (at least two per page) of anybody who had anything to do with RENT. I personally like the short bios of the original cast members with their own quotes on what RENT meant to them. If you don't have this book, go buy. If you don't have the cd, buy it with the book. Go see RENT the minute it comes within an hour of your house. VIVA LA VIE BOHEME!
