RENT : One "Show" GLORY!!!!!!!!! Thank You, Jonathan! August 21, 1998 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've now seen RENT six times on Broadway and loved it everytime. I saw it twice in Chicago this past winter. Jonatha was a genius whose light was snuffed out way too early. Everytime I read the section in the book where it goes into so much detail about his untimely death and the first performance of the show that has changed my life I bawl my eyes out. When I see the show live it's no different. I cry because I always realize that the man who worked for fifteen years and supported himself waiting tables will NEVER get to see the way that the audience and people like me reacts to a truly unique and life-changing piece of American Musical Theatre. Bravo Jonathan! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the way your show has affected so many people so deeply. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!!
Great book for ultimate RENTHEADS ! August 15, 1998 I love the musical RENT more than basically anything, and this book was an excellent addition to all of the information that I have on RENT. It has great pictures, quotes, and other stuff about the show. Even if you don't know very much about this musical, this book can help you learn all about it.
A good book for a great musical! August 7, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book changed the face of rent for me. I had seen the musical, about three times, and it never really clicked for me, what it all meant. Then I got the book. I saw what true struggles, this book came from. I realized what it meant to be an artist, starving for the next day, starving for a piece of the good life. While I read this book, I went through the entire course of human emotions. When rent went into the workshop, I smiled, when Jonathan died the night before he was to make it to "GLORY", I cried. Few books have had this effect on me. The music alone is enough to make you cry. If you want to truly find out what rent means, read the book, and when it gets to the script, pop in the cd. What makes this book great is the stunning reality, of the stuggle for fame, the struggle for life, and the life long struggle for love. Overall the visual effects of this book are stunning. From the front cover to the end. The actors bios at the end are a nice to! uch. I have never seen any other musical book, go this indepth. A truly great buy.
Beautiful book anout a wonderful play! August 4, 1998 This book chronicles the making and production of a wonderful. It's enjoyable and memorable.
I laughed and cried as I read this incredible book! July 21, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book takes you through the life and dreams of a man whom I believe was a genius, Jonathan Larson. There are tons of amazing quotes from him and those close to him . This book gave me a chance to learn even more about my absolute favorite musical, and it felt like I almost got to know Jonathan Larson. The large pictures of cast members performing each song in the libretto make it easier to explain the plot to friends. I seriously cried when reading about how Jonathan Larson died and everyone's reactions to his death. Overall, this is an awesome piece of literature for any Renthead or musical theater fan. NO DAY BUT TODAY!!!!
