Excellent book for any sort of RENThead. August 12, 2005 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Let me preface this by saying I am probably biased, as I have seen RENT 10 times (a small number when compared to some fans.)
I found this book to be extremely entertaining and enlightening. You never realize just how much work goes into creating something that you aren't really involved in. This book takes you backstage and behind the scenes for an expansive history of how RENT was conceived, designed, and brought to life on stage.
It also contains the full RENT script and song lyrics. Throughout the book are high-quality, color photographs of just about everything, including shots from the original broadway cast performing the show.
I would definitely reccomend this book - it is definitely worth the rather cheap price - for anyone. Whether you've seen the show once or thirty times, this book is perfect.
A must for Rentheads everywhere !!! July 23, 2005 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
This book is an incredible tribute to one of the best composers of modern musical theatre ... Rent is my FAVOURITE musical and this book is the perfect companion ... a must buy for Rentheads, musical theatre buffs or any person that believes "La Vie Boheme" !!!
Great Behind the Scenes Look at Rent July 17, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an OUTSTANDING book for any fan of "RENT." It offers a great behind the scenes look at the events and circumstances leading up to the creation of one of Broadway's greatest musicals ever. A lot of people are familiar with "RENT," but not many take the time to learn about its creator Jonathan Larson. This book takes you on his incredible journey to make his dream musical come to life. Some added bonus in the book are the libretto and tons of photos. This is truly a must have book for any "RENT" fan or any fan of theater.
Amazing June 17, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Words cannot express the greatness that this book is. It is everything that Rent expresses and more. The more? It delves into creator Jonathan Larson's life experience, and how that affected what Rent became. This is what made this book incredibly worthy. Jonathan's family and friends tell his life story and are able to show the passion and drive that Jonathan had. Also included are rare pictures ranging throughout Jonathan's life. After the first chunk of the book about Jonathan, the story of Rent comes into play with many rare pictures and tons of interviews with everyone involved with the show. And then comes the libretto, the complete libretto. With full page colored pictures. It's literally orgasmic for us fans.
I would venture to say that this book dedicated to every and anything that is Rent is entirely amazing. And now that the Rent world is growing with the feature film debuting this November 11, this books becomes more and more special.
SIMLY AMAZING. June 15, 2005 RENT is the most amazing show ever, a must to own for any RENT fan.<3. Also, for anyone who dosn't like RENTbook because of 'People in Trouble', get-over-it. Your hating on someone whos not even alive anymore.. we like RENT and we dont care where the story came from becuase us RENTheads are still going to stand by RENT. This book captures everything about the play.. I'm inlove with it, any fan of RENT would love it.
