It gets even better April 27, 2007 Although the movie soundtrack is fantastic, I found this soundtrack is even better. Having originated from the play, it may provide another perspective that enhances your "Rent" experience overall.
Jonathon Larson rocks!
LOVE LOVE LOVE... ALL TIME FAVORITE January 17, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw the musical twice, once in L.A. and other in Chicago and it was GREAT!!! I'm a huge fan and pretty much know all the words. I never get sick of listening to this cd and others find it catchy too. I'm hoping my husband will let me watch it one more time in NY. :)
Amazing January 12, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This two disk CD hardly ever leaves my CD player. I actually went out and bought a bigger CD player just so that I could leave it in.
I have always thought that the comparations between "Rent" and "Hair" are totally unfair. In "Rent" we have a full cast with real and meaningful people without the false truths and lies that were around in the late 1960. Jonathan Larson is the Balzac of Generation X.

Ok, so 'kid' is overdoing it, but who has the time to set up another online account? RENT is my all-time favorite musical. I have never seen it on stage (although I will in a few weeks!) however, the original 1996 version is still my favorite. I have both soundtracks (movie and the original) and it is definitely worth it to buy the original. Many of the shorter songs (the answering machine messages, for example) are not in the movie soundtrack. You cannot be truly satisfied without hearing ALL of the songs. If you were to rate quality of sound alone, the movie soundtrack is obviously better (it has ten years of technology over the original), for true RENT fans, though, the quality is the least of our worries. I personally prefer Tracie Thomas in 'Seasons of Love', but both women preform very well and are quite gifted vocally. La Vie Boheme is my personal favorite song, because it focuses on many issues still present, it's witty and good-humored and is broken up by Roger& Mimi's beautiful duet of 'I Should Tell You'. You'll laugh, smile, cry, wonder, imagine, hope, and dream- all in the first act. This is a must-have for music lovers of all shapes and sizes.
