A Wonderful Story Incredibly Filmed December 8, 1998 So often, films of stage productions have a tendency to throw in special effects and odd cuts and jumps to - supposedly - make the film more enjoyable (take the new "Cats" for example...). This is just a perfectly re-created musical. The actors shine, the voices and music are magnificent, and the story is clever, fun and insightful. EVERYONE would love this!!!
I laughed, I cried, it was better than cats! December 7, 1998 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent musical for adult fairy tale lovers who know what life is really like! Lively music, witty lyrics and stunning performances from Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason. A must-see for theater lovers.
Bernadette Peters is the best December 4, 1998 Most people do not like the bad guys but Bernadette Peters is the best that I have seen she is soooooooo!!!!!!!!!!gggggoooooooooodddddd!!!! She was so cool
Another delightful Sondheim classic! November 23, 1998 The whole cast shines in my most favorite Sondheim musical! The music and lyrics are brilliant and you'll love all the fairy tale stories that are magically interwoven. The second act deals with deeper issues as the characters deal with what happens after they live "happily ever after." A true classic!
One of the best musicals I've seen! November 18, 1998 I am a big fan of Broadway, and Into the Woods is one of my favorite musicals in the world. The first act interweaves six different fairy tales through the device of a new story about a baker and his wife. The second act begins with, "Once upon a time . . . later . . ." and tells what happens to the characters AFTER "happily ever after." Stephen Sondheim's lyrics are, as always, insightful, managing to relate to real life in the most absurd of theatrical situations. This is a worthwhile fairy tale for all ages.
