Decent June 2, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a pretty decent warmup cd, it will help get your voice ready to go somewhat for when you want to sing some actual songs. The major parts of the cd I disagree with however is that she gives some bad advice, and sometimes doesn't give advice at all when it's needed.
She doesn't properly explain what you need to do in order to hit the higher notes in the warmups, and she also tells you on numerous occasions that you need to essentially tense up your stomach in order to hit some of the warmups. This is bad advice as singing should come naturally and you should be in a relaxed state.
Other than this it is a pretty decent cd.
Good Lessons April 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The CD is really good and as a bonus includes a few lessons of breathing exercises. The only thing I dislike is that, when you hear it everyday, you found a little bit anoying, the comments of the teacher over the piano sound you are suppose to sing. Also sometimes she speak really fast and loud. But maybe is just my point of you after many listens.
My favorite warm-up CD April 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've wanted to sing for as long as I can remember, but never could afford voice lessons. I've recently invested in about 5 different vocal CDs to see if I could help myself learn a bit. Out of all the ones I purchased, this is by far my favorite and most used CD. I found the exercises to be simple, and Ariella explains everything before you attempt it. Some of the "visualizations" she gave before the exercises helped me a great deal. I especially liked the breathing exercises, very helpful.
Some vocal CDs just go through the exercise once and then expect you to be able to do it, but sometimes you like to know WHY the particular exercise is useful for vocal development. Don't worry, she doesn't go overboard with explaining though. The most important thing to keep in mind is to stay in your personal comfort zone. Everyone is at different levels of vocal development, so you must never strain to reach a note that you don't feel comfortable hitting. Ariella covers this in the intro. She cannot tell if you are straining or pushing, so you have to be the judge of what your body is telling you. Another thing to keep in mind is you don't have to try to be powerful when doing these exercises! I know that Ariella sounds loud over the piano when she is going through the exercises but I find it's the best to stay at a speaking level or softer. Just make sure you are comfortable, and don't try to push because you think you have to do these loudly. I find it counter-productive to try to do that. Do what works for you.
I recommend this CD for both people who are starting out and for those who already know how to sing but are just looking for a warm-up CD or a refresher. Of course nothing compares to a vocal coach that can assess your voice and give you specialized vocal lessons, and there is no magic CD that cures all your vocal problems, but this is definitely worth buying if you want to better your voice, no matter what level you're at.
Voice Lessons To Go -Yes! April 7, 2008 As a professional musician/singer, I am always interested in vocal exercises and teaching techniques. I found Ariella Vaccarino's CD, Voice Lessons To Go, to be informative, relevant and fun. I would recommend this CD to beginning vocal students who want an introduction to voice technique as well as professional vocalists who want to add new exercises to their current repertoire.
Sorry to disagree... April 1, 2008 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
Sorry to disagree with so many positive reviews, but I found this CD of very little value. I can see where some might find it useful for warming up the voice, but even then the speed of the exercises precludes thoughtful placement and proper breathing. As a beginner looking for help in improving my breathing and volume, I found virtually nothing helpful here. As an addition to other voice exercises maybe it's useful, but if you have not had voice training before, this CD will not help develop proper technique. I finally resorted to finding a voice teacher and have never looked back.
