Starts off slow enough for beginners, but established musicians will be able to push the envelope. If you want to shred, practice with this book!!!

5 out of 5 stars Speed Mechanics for Lead Guitar   December 18, 2007
Although I have played guitar for 30+ years, I never knew what some of the hot metal players were doing. I wanted something that would show me what they are doing and how, even though, I won't be playing it in a band. This is just a personal knowledge thing with me. This book is ideal for showing you the exercises needed to develop strength and dexterity. Each example is excellently demonstrated on the enclosed cd. I have only gone thru about 10 or 11 exercises so far, and I am being patient and wanting to play technically correct and not fast and sloppy..You will learn a lot from this book, if you are an aspiring metal player.Take Troy's advice to heed, play slowly then develop techniques, and soon you will fly..

5 out of 5 stars Shred Theory 101   November 23, 2007
This is the book to start with if you want to master the fundamentals of shred technique which is fast alternate picking. An excellent teacher, Troy, shows you the secrets to mastering alternate picking using a few simple exercises. There a lots of other techniques covered including combining legato and alternate picking techniques plus sweeping and how to create solos and phrases. Classical pieces like Flight of the Bumblebee and others are also present in the book in standard and tab music form ensuring that you wil get that neo-classical sound in your shredding.

5 out of 5 stars Lead Man   October 19, 2007
Good print. Well organized and satisfactory content. It was pinpointed as reference material by my son's guitar instructor who lives 10000 miles off the CONUS. I think this alone proves the maturity of the publication. Thanks to the author, publisher and the retailer (AMAZON), latter for punctual process for delivery to an overseas customer like me.

5 out of 5 stars Short and sweet.   September 16, 2007
I could go into a long review about this book, but it could end up being longer than the book itself. This short little gem is a nice addition to any lead guitarist's library. Simple and to the point. Great book for exercises and lead pattern work.
